If you are like me and DO tire of hearing about us, JUST SKIP TO THE KIDISMS PART. Its the best anyway!!!
This year we planned on lots of changes. Some happened as planned and some didn’t, we also had a few unplanned changes and we are doing as the late Elder Whirthlin said. “Take what comes and love it!”
The biggest change was Dan’s business. He dissolved a company and started a new one. He and his brother Brian are working together and consequently Dan is traveling on longer trips now. :( Dan had hoped to expand and be the manager as opposed to the traveler! He planned on expanding faster, but the economy hasn’t helped us much in this. We are staying optimistic though, while also trying to be prepared for…whatever comes!
In the spring Dan was named our District “Scoutmaster of the Year”. He deserves it! He is so great teaching, tolerating and... torturing those boys! He was also called as the 2nd counselor in the YM. His two callings coincide but it’s still... more!
In Aug. Karen’s parents started a 23 month LDS mission to Frankfurt Germany. Following their blog has been a vicarious adventure! She’s been cultivating her own blogging skills too, and loves it!
Also in Aug she was released as Cub Scout Den Leader and is now the Primary Chorister. (children’s Sunday school) It was overwhelming at first, and she has been on a learning curve, but she’s getting a handle on it!
10 year old Gideon has taken off with reading this summer, thanks to Harry Potter. He has also taken up the trumpet and loves it. He is really doing well with music theory, better than his Mom! He helps so much around the house Mom doesn’t know what she’d do with out him. He is becoming more and more responsible and caring toward his siblings… especially his brother.
Claire, big 7 year old, became a serious reader over the summer and early fall. She has pushed herself to read everything she sees and is now so good she announced the other day, “MOM! I’m reading The Boxcar Children! And it’s a CHAPTER BOOK!” She also loves to write stories and has a wonderful imagination to fuel that talent! She continues to have beautiful curly hair that she doesn’t like Mom to brush for fear of making it ‘straight!’
20 month old Isaac with red-’ish’ hair has banished the ‘ish.’ It’s full on RED and not even hinting at fading! His learning development is focused more on the physical side and so he can climb up on furniture like a monkey, scribble on walls, as well as open and unload things… i.e. being dangerous and making messes! Also, he is saying a LOT! We just can’t understand most of it yet!
We love our Savior and have been grateful to Him for our many blessings, and most especially for our family and extended family. They are a blessing every day. We treasure this time of year as one that focuses on both Christ and family! God bless you all!
