Blue and Gold Banquet

As Gideon is now 10 this is his last year in Cub Scouts.  I'm sad and happy at the same time!
We had our Blue and Gold Banquet this week and in our Ward. We do a potluck dinner and a cake decorating contest.  The theme was American ABC's (though there was some debate about that!)
Gideon and I worked together to create his cake.

We rolled up towels and covered them with foil, or just used wads of foil to fill in the negative spaces.  We had to do the mirror image because we were going to flip it over.

Here is the cake after we removed the foil.
Here is the almost finished cake.  We melted white chocolate chips and then used a hot knife (put next to the hot element on our stove) to cut out stars to add the final touch.
And here he is with the finished product!

Here is a pic of the whole table of entries... we had serious competition, note the DC capital in the right corner!
The eagle took First place....(serious fondant there, they deserved it!)  and the capital was Second place, (Another amazing cake!) Third place went to the spider here below. (Very fun!)
(The American flag and Washington flag here in this pic were Den presentations not cake entries.)

It was a fun evening and the boys literally lapped it up. In the summer Gideon will turn 11 and be out of cub scouts and into the Eleven year old scouts...It's gone by in a blur!

Very good job,Gid! Grandpa and I loved the cake you made. You did so great, and your mom did a great job helping you, too.
Love you, Grandma Pat
