Gideon wanted to be a cartoon drawing this year. An anime ninja. He found it in a book on how to draw anime characters, which he has been using a LOT. So we went at it and worked out the costume. Only hitch was the hair...the cartoon's was green. I didn't want to spend 15 bucks on colored hair spray so I tried an at home recipe I got from the internet. It said to mix up the stuff with food coloring then let it sit for 30 mins at least, and then wash out. Well, we let it sit for closer to 45 mins, and when we washed it out, there was not even a tinge of green. Not a speck, streak or hint of green. Though I'm sure my septic tank is green and expect more vibrant grass over the winter. : ) So Gideon was a non-green ninja. But he still looked good eh?!
Then there was Isaac the 'GOLD' one of the evening. He got so much candy! Everyone wanted to give him two pieces because..."Oh, he is so cute!!!" The lucky guy that wasn't so lucky. He couldn't eat hardly any of his loot as it almost all had corn syrup or some other corn contaminant. : ( He was still the cutest thing around though!!! (and he got plenty of contraband because he is getting sneaky!!) (he also has a diaper rash now.) Here is a pic of George, the other Ninja of the evening. Gid and George were only visible to me 30 seconds after we got out of the car and then 30 seconds before we got back in. I let the other kids keep track of him because they were off and running at the earliest chance. Good thing I wasn't by myself this year!
I want to add a special note of thanks to Arden and Eva for accompanying us, loaning costumes to family and generally being fantastic! Love you.
Claire at first wanted to be a vampire.(That was back in the spring) Then in the summer she switched to Cleopatra when she saw some cool pics online. She switched again to Cinderella when she found out her 'twin' Sara was going to be Sleeping Beauty. Then in a fit of individuality, on the morning of Halloween, she switched it to ...Oh mi gosh!!, I can't even remember!!!..(Heh, I remembered right before publishing, she wanted to be a skeleton with a full face of paint for the skull part). Well, I chatted with her a bit and gave her the list of her choices... which were narrow then because we were out of time. Included in that list was Gideon's previous racoon costume I got at Costco years ago, which is warm and snuggly and just a bit snug on her. Well, that's the one she picked, or rather didn't have time to change from. She was being a bit snooty to the cameramen and wasn't cooperating to have her picture taken so this is pretty much all we have of her.
Some days I'm really glad I only have one girl...
Interestingly enough I used this costume with all 3 of my boys. Only Claire missed out on this one because she was born on the DAY AFTER halloween and by the next year she was walking and the pouch wouldn't work. Benjamin did really great that night. He's a super trooper.
If you look hard in the group shot you can see Dan dressed as an Indian... note the facepaint... and I was the cowgirl rounding him up! ; )
I like having one day a year to be anything. I love Halloween for that!

You must have had a lot of fun, once everyone was dressed. It looks like Claire didn't want her picture taken at all. Missed seeing her.
