Today I finished the last book, chapter and verse of the Old Testament.
I'd started reading the Old Testament a couple (3?) years ago. Yes, years, and I've skipped to different books of scripture here and there but I've consistently gone back and picked up where I left off. So today I can say I've read the WHOLE of the Old testament. Yes even Numbers. ; )It was pretty amazing all the things I learned. I am an amateur student of history and reading this really helped me put a good timeline on all the events of early Israel. If there was one thing I would pick out that impressed me it would be the amazing-ness of King David and his ascension and reign, I can understand better why the Israelites really revere him. Yes he was a "fallen" king and yes it was totally wrong what he did. Totally. But I also take into account all he was tempted with, the many times he DIDN'T fail and the fact that he was HUMAN. None of us are as godly yet as he was... especially at the end of his life after he repented and suffered for his sins. I also appreciated knowing the kings and their successions as well as the the earliest of the history. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their relationships with God. Those were particularly valuable to me because their relationships and conversations were so personal. Their clues of how to have a relationship like that are precious. Live Gods commandments, cry unto him, trust in His answers. Their lives and their children's lives were very clear illustrations of what can happen when you do or don't follow His counsel. I've read much of the bible here and there, but this was the first time I read it cover to cover so to speak. It was a very good experience.
Now onto the New Testament! Wuhoo!
I'm glad to be able to take advantage of the new study notebook at the new LDS.org . Under the menu tab they have a study tab with My Study Notebook as an option. You have to sign in (uses your membership #) but then they have all kinds of options to help study. You can highlight, add notes, and tags to your notes for easy organizing into folders and easy searching for lessons, talks etc. I'm hoping that my New Testament reading will be full of insights which I can add to my knowledge base and my daily life. I really do want to love holiness. This is one way the church is helping me do that.

Wow, Sis, I am so totally impressed - especially with the insights you have gained during this journey you've taken. Thanks for sharing!
I just recently discovered the online scripture tools on the Church website too - COOL. Also the YW Personal Progress is online too, you can do all of it, including scripture study & journaling online. Love it!
This is so great! I remember teaching it and learning so much, but I'm not sure I read every chapter and verse. Congratrulations! Love you, Mom
