Tree fort

In 2004 I built a tree house for my kids. (Yes, that is I as in Karen, with little to no help from Dan, excepting the time and effort he put into my construction education that I got in Japan while we were building homes together.)

Then the next year, I dreamed up an idea for a second tree construction, a tree fort, and the whipped cream on top was a bridge to span the two. :)

Well, this morning after only 3 years of stop and start constructing, I hammered the last nail into the second part. The Fort is now complete! It's got a trap door and a permanent ladder leading to it.

My favorite part is that there is no where for bugs to live on the deck. Our tree house has a roof and door and windows, and the bugs and spiders LOVE to live in it. So the fort is as bug free as I can make it. I'm gonna have to modify the tree house (again) to make is less bug friendly.

Well, maybe in the next 3 years I can complete the bridge to span them. (The hammock does not count as a bridge, just fyi)

Gid wants a rope bridge, Dan is trying to convince him to go for a draw bridge and I was contemplating a hard, un-mobile, stable, safe, wooden bridge. Though lately the rope bridge has been growing on me. (If you substitute steel cables for the rope and have verticle slats every 4 inches, and base and over head supports and, and, and...)

Oh, my heck, I am just SO impressed!! No wonder it was nothing to fix the water line to our fridge! What lucky kids you have. I LOVED (still do) tree houses, and we don't have a place for any such thing! Waah!

BTW, your garden is AMAZING! I'm glad you like that zucchini recipe so much...:) You're quite the poet, I hope you know it! LYL

what a good mamma you are! I say give them all capes and teach them to fly across. Maybe Bat hooks and they can swing...
