Last friday was the last day of School for our school district.
One of Dan's recent scouts who just turned 16 two months ago was excited coming home.
Who wouldn't be?
It hadn't rained here in 3 weeks and the roads were more than dusty, and on Friday it rained.
There was a sharp corner, and another car, and in less than two hours, Josh was gone.
It hasn't even been a week but he is now in the ground. His family weeps and a community mourns.
This whole past weekend we have been attending to his death in one way or another. Dan went to both our new ward and our old ward this past sunday, Father's Day. There were memorial services, Candlelight vigils, and finally today the funeral. It's been a week of emotions and
amazingly enough, peace.
The family is remarkable. They are grounded in Christ and his Plan of Happiness and they know they will see their son again. THEY have been teaching US about the peace and comfort that Christ brings.
I've been hugging my kids and husband more. Understanding more clearly that change is one of the constants and that our whole world can spin on a dime at any moment.
I'm so grateful for the Gospel, the good news that tells us, "This world isn't the end, there is so much more, because we can be together forever!"
Josh served his mission today. As over 750 people packed into our church building to listen as Josh's Father explained the Plan of Happiness to them all, to tell them why they have peace in their souls even in the midst of this turmoil. That his life had meaning and purpose and it continues! Just like ours does and will.
Thank you God for answering our prayers. We have found peace.
Enjoy your summer Josh. School's out...
