Peas and parents

It was not your average Sunday evening... how could it be when the family was feasting on corned beef and cabbage? Liana and Jordan as well as their son Ethan (aka Lilo) had joined us and Dan and Liana were living up to their family's heritage and talking about gross things... you know, intubating patients or gunshot wounds, and of course vomiting had to be mentioned at least once... It was a normal meal in the conversation department.  I'd made fresh pea salad to go with our delish meats and veggies.  Liana was sitting closest to Ben, who oddly enough was a lackluster eater that night... truly odd for him.  Then Liana noticed that Ben had put a pea up his nose. (side note: I have NEVER had children put things up their nose before... what the?!)  But Liana was a pro and smushed his nose from the top down and it came right out.
Then she decided to check if there was more up there...
yup....
and it was way up there.
...Now what!?

I ran for my plethora of tweezers.
Liana did a closer inspection, then Dan and I tried to immobilize Ben while Liana tried to do an extraction.  Didn't work, it went up farther.
Changed tweezers, still no luck.
Dan pulled Ben out of his high chair to get a good look, and turned him flat...
the pea retracted more as a result.
At this point the whole family is surrounding the little munchkin trying to get a look at the tiny green offender safely ensconced in its retreat.  Ben was surprisingly mellow still.
I knew this couldn't last and I was getting worried.
Dan decided to take a different tack.  He asked for a wash cloth to wipe off Ben's face - there was mashed potato all over his nose and mouth.  After he was wiped clean he plugged his left non pea-filled nostril, covered his mouth with his own and blew air into him.
Out came the pea.  The whole room cheered.
We were all laughing and smiling in joy and disbelief.
:) :) :) :) :)
Dan's new EMT certification was still hot off the presses and he's already got a surgical procedure under his belt.
And now, there will be more gross things to talk about around the dinner table when the Felts all get together...

I can't believe Ben put those peas up his nose! But I'm sure it's not the first time it's been done. Thank goodness that Dan knew what to do!!! Love you all. Mom
